Crawl Space Moisture Repair & Control
Mold’s purpose is to eat dead, wet, organic matter– mold usually grows at 70% relative humidity; however, some molds can grow at less. Once mold starts eating at the wooden components of your crawl space, you and your family at risk. Not only does mold have terrible health effects– it can cause costly damage to your joists, subfloor, and more.
Rotten Crawl Space Insulation
Wet, load bearing girders and floor joists will get attacked by mold, causing these components to get so rotted – it will all have to be replaced. Often times, floor joists need to be “sistered” which is basically nailing a new joist alongside a structurally compromised one. Unfortunately, this isn’t a $50.00 fix, and guess what? If you don’t fix the mold ad moisture problem… it will happen again.
There are several benefits from installing a dehumidifier (shown above) in your home, basement, or crawl space;
1. Dehumidifiers reduce humidity levels, making your home less hospitable to allergens such as dust mites, mold, and mildew.
2. They are not disruptive to your daily life, and run quietly and efficiently in the background without most people even noticing.
3. Dehumidifiers help reduce odors that can accompany mold and mildew in your home—getting rid of that “musty” or “rotting” smell.
4. These devices help to reduce the possibility that you will develop mold on your clothing, furniture, and other linens (such as curtains or bed sheets).
5. Dehumidifiers reduce irritation to your skin and your respiratory system, allowing you to breathe easier and feel comfortable in your home.
6. A less humid environment in your home means clothing will dry faster, breads and cereals will remain fresh longer without getting stale, and you won’t find signs of rust or corrosion on things like computer equipment, electronics, and tools.
Eco-Pro Construction LLC also offers crawl space hydrometers/RH meter to monitor the moisture levels in your crawl space.
A sump pump (shown above) is a small pump, usually installed in the lowest part of your basement or crawlspace. Its job is to help keep the area under the building dry and to prevent it from flooding. Usually, sump pumps are installed in specially constructed sump pump basins. Water flows into the sump pump basin through our drain system. The sump pump’s job is to pump the water out of the basin and away from the building so the basement or crawlspace stays dry.
